Shiatsu is an enjoyable and effective form of Oriental bodywork with similar principles to acupuncture. It has its origins in traditional Chinese medicine, dating back over 5,000 years.
Treatment involves applying various degrees of pressure to the body along meridians (pathways of energy).
Also used are gentle stretches, rocking movements and holding techniques to improve blood circulation, flexibility, posture and energy flow. Shiatsu promotes a state of deep relaxation and is energising for both the body and the mind.

Shiatsu treatment takes place on a padded mat at ground level. People may be treated lying on their front, back or sides or, if they have mobility problems, sitting on a chair. Shiatsu is performed through loose, warm clothing, preferably cotton (e.g. long-sleeved T-shirt, tracksuit and socks), which does not restrict movement.
A Shiatsu consultation and treatment lasts approx. 1¼ hours
