Massage plays a very important part in Aromatherapy. As well as assisting the essences to penetrate the skin, the massage itself has considerable benefits. The aroma of the oils has an additional positive effect.

Aromatherapy massage is a combination of Swedish soft tissue massage, Shiatsu and neuro-muscular massage. These techniques are applied according to the specific needs of a patient.

Deep massage, when required, is done gently, rather than vigorously. Pressure is applied which is effective, while at the same time causing the minimum of discomfort.

Consultation and Treatment:

The first consultation is aimed at establishing the particular needs of the patient. This involves taking a full medical history, selecting appropriate oils and discussing the options available for treatment.

To experience the full benefits of Aromatherapy, a course of three treatments is normally recommended.

The intervals between treatments depend upon the particular condition.

Common Conditions Treated:

Skin Complaints

These are often the surface manifestation of deeper conditions, such as an accumulation of toxins in the blood, hormonal imbalance or nervous and emotional difficulties.

Psoriasis, Eczema and Acne are typical conditions that respond well to a course of Aromatherapy treatment.

Circulation, Muscles and Joints

Essential oils are readily absorbed through the skin into the blood stream and affect the circulation as a whole.

Certain oils result in an improved local circulation, and also influence inner organs. Considerable pain relief can also be achieved by an appropriate blend of essential oils.

Respiratory Problems

E.g. Catarrh, Sinusitis, Asthma, Colds.
Nose, throat and lung infections respond very well to treatment with essential oils.
Once absorbed, most essential oils are excreted through the lungs: only a small part is passed through the urine.

Genito-Urinary Conditions

Urinary tract problems can be assisted by the use of those oils containing antiseptic properties.

Endocrine Problems

E.g. Menstrual cramp and other menstrual disorders. Some essential oils have an affinity for the reproductive system, and have a generally strengthening effect.

Complaints such as menstrual problems and genital infections can be combated with essential oils.

Certain essential oils are known to influence the levels of hormone secretion of other glands, such as the thyroid and adrenal glands.

Immune System

Virtually all essential oils have bactericidal properties. By promoting the production of white blood cells, they can help prevent and treat infectious illness.

E.g. Protection against colds and flu
Reducing fever and temperature
Promoting sweating and elimination of toxins

The Nervous System

Sedative oils are used to treat:
Nervous tension, Stress, Insomnia

Stimulating oils are used for:
Convalescence, Lack of strength, Nervous fatigue

Nerve tonics are used for:
Strengthening the nervous system as a whole.

Digestive Problems

Herbal medicine has many remedies at its disposal for a wide variety of digestive disorders. The external application of aromatherapy oils is, therefore, by comparison rather limited in its effectiveness.
