Shiatsu is an enjoyable and effective form of oriental bodywork with similar principles to acupuncture. It has its origins in traditional Chinese medicine, dating back over 5,000 years.

Treatment involves applying various degrees of pressure to the body along meridians (pathways of energy).

Also used are gentle stretches, rocking movements and holding techniques to improve blood circulation, flexibility, posture and energy flow.

Shiatsu promotes a state of deep relaxation and is energising for both the body and the mind.
Shiatsu helps to relieve:

  • stress and tension
  • improve digestion
  • ease menstrual problems
  • relieves backache
  • promotes healthier pregnancy and ease childbirth.

Shiatsu treatment takes place on a padded mat at ground level. People may be treated lying on their front, back or sides or, if they have mobility problems, sitting on a chair. Shiatsu is performed through loose, warm clothing, preferably cotton (e.g. long-sleeved T-shirt, tracksuit and socks), which does not restrict movement.

George has been a practitioner of Shiatsu for over fifteen years. He was born in the Lake District and, after studying in London for seven years, became a Member of the Register of the Shiatsu Society and a Graduate of the European Shiatsu School.

His extensive clinical experience includes the treatment of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), insomnia, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), paraplegia, frozen shoulder, whiplash, strokes, migraine, epilepsy, asthma, menopause, emotional and psychological problems and playing a supportive role in the care of AIDS - HIV, hepatitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and cancer patients.
George is able to give talks and demonstrations to groups and organisations.

A Shiatsu consultation and treatment lasts approx. 1ΒΌ hours.
