I am an accredited and registered counsellor with over 10 years of experience. My approach is down to earth; my sessions look like a conversation to an outsider, but I will be doing my best to tailor my interventions to what I think will most help you at any time. I am trained in 3 different approaches and, whilst I draw on these different theories of emotional functioning, I have learnt with experience that if I can really understand your world, I can meet you there and perhaps then help you to see things in a different light. The sessions are confidential, so that you can start to explore difficult feelings, knowing that these will be held within the session.
I am a robust practitioner with my feet firmly on the ground! I am passionate about mental health and helping to change confusion into clarity, so that you can make choices that help you to live the life you would like to. I have a background in teaching in secondary schools and have also trained counsellors. I am accredited by BACP and abide by its Ethical Framework. I also offer supervision to other counsellors.
If you are confused, in distress, or just want to take the opportunity to take stock of your life, then you could try a session, with no obligation, to see whether you feel I might be able to help you. My first session is only £10. This is because I see this first session as an opportunity for us to see whether counselling is likely to help you, and for you to see whether you feel comfortable working with me.
I offer 1:1 sessions of an hour, for individuals or couples. I also run groups of up to 6 people; these are a way of looking at bereavement and other losses in a supportive and structured environment. I also run groups to help understand and deal with depression and anxiety. Groups are a very effective way of looking at the effects of depression and anxiety in a dynamic and educational way.
I am very committed to the therapeutic process, as I have seen so many positive outcomes from it over my years of practice.
I aim to help you to express what is troubling you, even when you may be unsure of why you feel as you do.
I try to help you find ways to change what you are experiencing if it is holding you back from living the life you would like to live.
I will work with you to become clearer about what you are experiencing, and be better able to tolerate distressing feelings. I aim to understand your experience from your point of view, whilst helping you to see the bigger picture.
